Oliver and OJ
Oliver and OJ (our rescue Scotties) along with my husband Paul and myself have been attending Mel’s training classes for nearly twelve months. In this time we have been able to achieve our KCGC Bronze and Silver Award and are well on our way to passing our KCGC Gold Award.
One of the reasons we were attracted to Mel’s training classes was because of her experience of working with rescue dogs and dogs with problems.
When we first enrolled into Mel’s training class our two Scottie boy’s had never experienced any form of training and lacked socialisation skills in both canine and human contact. Their previous life was quite traumatic before they were taken into rescue. Within the past year Mel has not only used her training skills on Oliver and OJ but on us as well. This has made us more confident in what we do with our dogs.
Mel’s training methods are reward based with each class attended always offering different exercises. This makes training classes fun, effective and achievable. We cover a range of training exercises that are both stimulating and enjoyable to both dog and handler. Mel’s training classes are always well thought out with each dog and handler receiving individual attention if required.
We have certainly seen a difference in Oliver and OJ. OJ has changed from being a quite nervous Scottie to a Scottie full of life and energy. Once he was quite nervous of strangers and certain situations. He has now overcome this and loves life, people and socialises with other dogs. Due to Mel’s training and her methods OJ is now participating in flyball and runs in a local flyball team.
Mel has also shown great patience and understanding with Oliver. Oliver suffers from a condition that effects his balance and co ordination. Mel has supported Oliver and myself through training exercise such as recall and heel work and worked at a pace that Oliver is happy with. Mel has also taught me signs to look for in Oliver when he gets tired and needs to rest. Oliver also had a problem with bowl aggression. With Mel’s advise and reassurance we have been able to overcome this problem.
We always look forward to our weekly training class with Mel. I am sure Oliver and OJ know which day we go training as they always get excited before class.
Oliver and OJ are now content happy Scotties. Thank you Mel.

Tiny
I purchased Tiny, my little miniature Jack Russell, over a year ago when she was estimated to be 2yrs old. I decided to buy a companion for my daughter who at the time was ill and needed a boost. I was aware that Jack Russell’s are very temperamental if not controlled in the correct manner.
I booked a lesson with Mel to discuss the many problems that Tiny had and to find out the best way to train her. Tiny needed to be socialised with other dogs and humans as she was very nervous, which created an aggression every time she would greet people or other animals. She didn’t know how to play with dogs or accept affection from people and we found this very sad.
Mel started training straight away to correct my handling. Over the year with working with Mel, Tiny and I have achieved great companionship and we have learnt how to work together. We have passed our Bronze, Silver, and Gold KC awards and we have attended and joined in on Fun days (which are great).
To see Tiny playing with my children and other dogs and under control in many different environments is wonderful.
If I hadn’t attended the classes I would be walking on my own along empty pathways and not enjoying the walks and friendship that we have. I have meet many different people and dogs in the classes and all with different problems but the same reason to attend. It is wonderful to see that the dogs all help each other as much as the humans.
All the classes are very calm and friendly with lots of help and advice. I couldn’t have achieved my well behaved Jack Russell with out Mel’s help.
Thank you Mel.
